Demolition of buildings on the former Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital property, now dubbed the Battey Business Complex, is expected to begin in earnest early next year. The property is zoned for heavy industrial use and VT Industries is in the works to purchase 21 acres and a building on the property for $1.6 million. Rome-Floyd County Development Authority President Missy Kendrick said she’s hoping that purchase will be completed by the end of the year. The company, which makes a variety of architectural wood doors and countertops, completed a 40,000-square-foot expansion at its largely landlocked facility in West Rome in 2022. Work to run water and sewer service along Cartersville Highway to the Enterprise Corner industrial property will likely begin in earnest in early 2025. The 200-acre property is located along U.S. 411 at 231 Bass Ferry Road. It was purchased by the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority for just under $4.2 million in SPLOST funds in 2021. While the tract is not yet tied into the water and sewer systems, that doesn’t mean nothing’s been going on so far. While there aren’t many visual changes yet at large projects like the Battey Business Complex and Enterprise Corner, there’s a lot going on as Floyd County’s business landscape continues growing. Up to this point, the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority has acquired $7.6 million in federal environmental assessment and cleanup grant funds for the Battey project. The development authority purchased the former Northwest Georgia Regional Hospital complex from the state with $2.25 million approved by voters in the 2013 and 2017 SPLOST packages. The Rome City Commission rezoned the North Division Street site for heavy industrial use last May.
